Interventional and Vascular Procedures

Interventional radiologists specialize in minimally-invasive treatments that target the source of disease internally. They use X-rays, ultrasounds, and other medical images to guide catheters through parts of the body, usually blood vessels, to the specific area of concern. Interventional radiology can often serve as an alternative to traditional surgery, which is much more invasive, costly, and time consuming to perform.

Many interventional radiology procedures need to be performed within a hospital setting. Salem Radiology performs the full range of interventional radiology procedures at our partner hospital, Salem Hospital.

Interventional radiology procedures performed at Salem Radiology’s outpatient imaging center include:

  • Thyroid FNA (fine needle aspiration)
  • Paracentesis
  • Ultrasound-guided breast biopsies
  • Ablation of the leg vein to resolve conditions associated with ulcers and varicose veins
  • Sclerotherapy
  • Phlebectomy
  • Thoracentesis
