Dr. Covarrubias completed his undergraduate education at Swarthmore College in 1991. He attended medical school at the University of California at Irvine and completed a residency in Radiology at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

He pursued advanced training in Neuroradiology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachussetts, splitting his time between Massachusetts General Hospital, the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and Boston Children's Hospital. He specializes in Neuroradiology and Head and Neck Imaging.

Dr. Covarrubias and his wife Jennifer live in Salem and have two children, Maria Elena and Francisco. He enjoys parenting, windsurfing the Columbia River Gorge, and the game of chess.
